Last year I got this lovely message from Steffi and Andy to ask if I would photograph their pre-wedding photos in the South Island of New Zealand. Over the months to come we would write and finalise the details of what was 2 days of adventuring in some of the most pristine areas of New Zealand. Over those months I became more and more excited about photographing Steffi and Andy as I could tell they had the same love for the alpine and mountainous landscape as I do.
I camped at Mount Cook the night before our shoot. It snowed it the morning (very unusual for summer even at Mount Cook) and a heavy fog and rain had set in. Right up until the afternoon it was cold, miserable, raining and foggy and not looking like our shoot would go ahead. Then magically at 3pm the clouds started to lift and left us with the most beautiful moody overcast sky and soft light. We drove from Lake Tekapo towards Mount Cook and when we reached the Hookey Valley we were amazed to see that the clouds had nearly fully cleared and underneath were the most amazing looking mountains covered in snow! Over the next two days we road tripped between Lake Tekapo, Mount Cook, Queenstown and Wanaka whilst stopping at the side of the road whenever we would see a beautiful spot. It was pretty magic!
Steffi and Andy – thank you so much for inviting me to be part of this adventure with you in this beautiful part of the world.
